A question worth asking
Sunshine's mom lived with diabetes, and the family watched her decline.
At her funeral, Sunshine turned to his daughter and said something that didn't make sense at first:
“We need to ask God why people suffer before they die?”
It sounded, at the time, like a question you weren't allowed to ask. It took years to understand what he really meant. He wasn't questioning why we die? — he was asking why we have to suffer before we die?
Why so much of the decline that comes before the end feels preventable, if only we knew more, sooner?
